Modifications

by Jeroen van Dinther

This page is about modifying your Mazda MX-5 or customizing it to your own taste.
I bought my first MX-5 in 2013. It took quite a while after that before I started modifying the car. I enjoyed the car just as it was for years. After all, it was a fully equipped car with all the options the manufacturer offered on the Dutch market at the time.

It wasn’t until 2019 that I really got actively involved in making modifications to the car. Retrofitting the cruise control system—which was exclusively available in North America—was high on my wish list. I worked on that project with Max de Jongh, who was still a student at the time and lived about 15 minutes away from me. Since then, our collaboration has continued out of a shared passion for the MX-5, and he’s become a very good friend.

The list of modifications I’ve made has grown considerably and isn’t limited to the NB/NBFL generation. Since then, I’ve also worked on the American NA Miata, the European NA MX-5, the NC generation, and the Mazda RX-8.

In 2021, I launched this website to share my knowledge and experience with the MX-5. That same year, I also posted my first 12-second video on YouTube. In 2024, I began using the MX5info YouTube channel more actively to complement this website. My most popular video to date is about my Top 25 modifications that I’ve done myself. You can find that video below.

After that, I made many more videos about all kinds of modifications, including this roundup of 10 inexpensive modifications you can make.

Under the “Modifications” menu, you’ll also find other pages. These cover specific modifications to the car, such as audio, convenience, lighting, or modifications that fall outside these categories.

If you have ideas for additional modifications—or questions about them—please get in touch via this contact page.

If this information has been helpful and you’d like to support my work for the MX-5 community, please consider subscribing to the YouTube channel. It costs just a small monthly fee. Your support helps me continue to invest in developing new knowledge and experience, which I can then share with you.
