This page is dedicated to the differences between the NB1 and NB2 Miata and MX-5. The European and American NB generation MX-5 and Miata are quite different. All differences between model years and markets are discussed here.
In 1998, deliveries of the first second-generation Mazda MX-5 began in Europe. This generation is known as the NB generation, the successor to the NA generation that was introduced in 1989. The pop-up headlights, which were so characteristic of the first generation, were eliminated to make the car safer for pedestrians.
In the United States, the second generation was introduced starting with the 1999 model year, still under the name Miata.
A facelift was introduced for the 2001 model year. In Europe, this is referred to as the NBFL, while Americans refer to it as the NB2, which succeeds the NB1. In the United Kingdom, this transition is referred to as the shift from the mk2 to the mk2.5.
There are quite a few differences between the 1998 to 2000 models of the NB/NB1/mk2 and the 2001 to 2005 models of the NBFL/NB2/mk2.5. To point out all the differences between model years and markets, I created a detailed video. You can find that video below.
A nice opportunity to check how much you know about the differences between the NB1 and NB2 Miata and MX-5.
