My MX-5 overview

by Jeroen van Dinther

In 2013, I bought my first MX-5, a 2005 1.8 S-VT Sportive

After that, I bought a few more. One was salvaged from a wrecked car, because I was looking for the complete interior of the Memories III special edition to install in my first MX-5. That was Project Lübeck in 2020, a car that helped me get to know the MX-5 much better. Taking a car like that apart is especially educational, and I can recommend it to anyone. You do need to have some time and space for it, though.

After that, the Oberhausen project was added in 2021. Another Memories III special edition. This is a 1.6 model, which I bought with rusted-through chassis beams, with the intention of restoring it to perfect technical and cosmetic condition. The ultimate goal is to go on road trips with family or friends, using two cars.

After Project Oberhausen was totaled in an accident involving the trailer, I bought the car back from the insurance company and used it as a parts donor for another Memories III that I found in Schömberg. It will come as no surprise to anyone when I say that this is Project Schömberg, a car that needed a lot of love to survive after a period of inactivity.

Once Project Schömberg had been restored and sold, a successor arrived in 2026. This time, it wasn’t a Memories III, but a Silver Blues. My first project car with a 1.8-liter engine, a hardtop, and air conditioning. This is Project Silver Blues.
